Kathmandu: The Floriculture Association Nepal (FAN) is set to organize the 19th Chrysanthemum Flower Competition and Exhibition 2083. The five-day exhibition will be held from Kartik 12 to 16 at the Jawalakhel Sports Ground in Lalitpur, targeting the upcoming Tihar and Chhath festivals.
The exhibition will be organized under the slogan, “Plant Chrysanthemums, Decorate Your Home and Surroundings with Flowers.” According to the organizers, the event aims to promote the commercial production and development of flowers in Nepal.
FAN has been organizing flower fairs and exhibitions continuously since 2051 B.S. to support the commercial development, expansion, and promotion of the floriculture industry. With the Tihar festival approaching, the exhibition aims to ensure the easy availability of flowers commonly used for decorating homes, courtyards, and gardens, as well as for welcoming guests. It also seeks to promote the commercial cultivation of chrysanthemums, encourage the development of new varieties, and improve production quality.
Recognized as one of Nepal’s largest chrysanthemum flower exhibitions, the event will feature a total of 86 exhibition stalls. These will include 78 commercial stalls, one plant clinic stall, four official stalls, two competition stalls, and one photo and selfie stall.
As the exhibition focuses on chrysanthemum flower competitions, the organizers will continue the tradition of recognizing and rewarding excellence in various categories. Participating nurseries and farms will compete in five categories of chrysanthemum flowers: Miniature, Spider, Reflex, Incurve, and Cut Flower.
The organizers will also hold a competition to select the best exhibition stall to encourage participating nursery businesses. This year, a new category for outstanding floral arrangements using cut flowers has also been introduced.
Nurseries and farms securing first, second, and third positions, as well as those recognized as the best in individual categories, will receive shields, cash prizes, and certificates.
According to the organizers, the exhibition will showcase and sell a wide range of chrysanthemum plants commercially produced in Nepal, along with several new varieties introduced this year. More than 450 types of flowers and plants are expected to be displayed and made available for sale.
In addition to chrysanthemums, the exhibition will feature marigolds, globe amaranths, and other seasonal flowers available during this time of year. Ornamental plants will also be displayed and sold at the event.
The organizers believe the exhibition will be beneficial for people interested in starting floriculture businesses, decorating their homes and gardens, purchasing flowers and plants, or gaining knowledge about flower cultivation.
Information about new technologies, production methods, and recent developments in the floriculture sector will also be provided at the exhibition venue.
Furthermore, a plant clinic staffed by plant disease specialists will offer services to address visitors’ concerns regarding plant diseases, insect infestations, and plant health. The service is intended to help visitors identify problems affecting their flowers and plants and obtain appropriate guidance.
The five-day exhibition is expected to attract more than 39,000 visitors and generate commercial transactions worth over NPR 13 million, according to the organizers.
